Product Description
Viola cornuta
Deep purple wings with violet & yellow faces on plants reaching 6-8″ tall. Compact, mounding plants with many flowers, covering the soil at time of flowering. Early blooming, free-flowering plants remain compact in both heat and cold and have excellent overwintering ability. Hardy to -10°F.
Transplant into the garden 6-8″ apart.
Packet is 25 seeds.
You can start violas indoors 6-8 weeks before your last average frost, or you can start outdoors in cell packs in fall or early spring.
Press into soil and lightly cover. Keep out of direct sunlight until seeds germinate as darkness aids germination. Kept at 65-70° F, germination is in 7-14 days. Transplant into the garden 6-10″ apart, depending on the variety (spacing for specific varieties is under the product description).
Violas prefer full sun to partial shade and need cooler temperatures to thrive. They prefer moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. They need regular water, especially in warmer weather. Fertilize every 2 weeks with a general, balanced, all-purpose fertilizer. Be wary of using a nitrogen-heavy fertilizer where the first nutrient number is higher than the other two.
Remove faded/dead flowers to encourage plants to produce more blooms and to prolong the blooming season.
