Product Description
Salvia coccinea
Tubular white flowers on neat, heavy-blooming & very sturdy 18″ tall plants. Heat and drought tolerant. This is also known as Texas sage or Hummingbird sage and is said to be perennial in zones 9-10, and a tender perennial in zone 8 (not frost tolerant). In zones 4-7, this salvia is treated as an annual. Transplant into the garden about 12″ apart. AAS Bedding Plant Winner in 2015.
Packet is 25 seeds.
Germination
Start salvia seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last average frost. Barely cover seeds as they need light for germination. Kept at 70-80° F, germination is in 14-21 days. Make sure to acclimate seedlings to outdoor temperatures before transplanting into the garden. See product description for specific spacing for each variety.
Growing
To encourage a prolonged flowering season, deadhead spent flower spikes once they have completely bloomed. While this salvia is fairly drought tolerant, it will not flower well if it is not watered at all.
